About the Outward Bound Trust

The Outward Bound Trust is a global network of outdoor education organizations that provide challenging expeditions in the great outdoors to foster the personal growth and social skills of participants. Founded in the UK by Lawrence Holt and Kurt Hahn in 1941, Outward Bound International is a non-profit membership and licensing organization for the international network of Outward Bound schools, while the Outward Bound Trust is an educational charity established in 1946 to operate schools in the UK. Today, Outward Bound operates schools in over 35 countries, attended by more than 150,000 people each year, with separate organizations operating the schools in each country.

The Outward Bound Trust has been instrumental in shaping outdoor adventure programs and has influenced the U.S. Peace Corps, among others. The organization’s aim is to challenge individuals in ways that bring out their personal strengths and potential, building confidence and resilience through a variety of outdoor experiences.
