About Pertex
Pertex is a renowned brand of synthetic fabrics, widely used in outdoor and sports apparel. Its origins date back to 1979 when it was established by Perseverance Mills Ltd. in Padiham, England. Initially, the brand specialized in industrial textile production and was approached by Hamish Hamilton, a climber and mountaineer with a concept for a new fabric. The fabric was designed to be wind-resistant and transport moisture through capillary action, woven from multifilament synthetic yarns, and high-density.
Buffalo Systems Ltd. in Sheffield became the first company to use Pertex fabrics in their pile-lined sleeping bags. Later, Pertex developed its expertise in heat calendering, which allowed the production of down-proof fabrics for sleeping bags and down jackets. This process involved reducing the interstices between yarns, resulting in low air permeability and high resistance to down and fiber migration.
Currently, Mitsui & Co., Ltd. of Japan owns Pertex, which has become a trusted brand for high-quality and lightweight synthetic fabrics. It is well-known for its innovative technologies and continues to be a go-to choice for manufacturers in the outdoor and sports apparel industries.
