    AIARE

Established in 1998 as a nonprofit educational organization, AIARE (American Institute for Avalanche Research and Education) has been dedicated to developing an evidence-based avalanche education model for backcountry users. With the belief that avalanche education, research, and training can prevent injuries and fatalities, AIARE has been disseminating research-based avalanche curriculum to over 110 Providers nationwide, as well as in France, Chile, and Argentina. The organization also offers professional and avalanche instructor training courses.

The seed for AIARE was planted during a chance meeting between mountain guides in the California Sierra in 1992. AIARE co-founder Jean Pavillard taught courses for aspiring guides and noticed that their avalanche knowledge was somewhat uneven, attributing this to varying curriculum and quality among the avalanche education providers they’d learned from. Together with Karl Klassen, another mountain guide, they agreed that it was time for a unified approach to avalanche education. At the time, there was no nationally recognized curriculum despite the increasing popularity of backcountry recreation.

Tom Murphy, the course director for Pavillard’s guiding company, recognized the need for an organized framework for assessing risk and moving through avalanche terrain. Klassen applied his curriculum development experience from the Canadian Avalanche Association to assist Pavillard and Murphy with their avalanche courses, and from this collaboration, AIARE was born in 1998.

From the start, AIARE integrated national and international standards and incorporated a decision-makers’ approach to risk management in avalanche education. The organization initiated an instructor training program to maintain consistency among instructors and provide them with best practices for interacting with students. AIARE consults with qualified instructors when developing new curriculum and supplementary materials to ensure their products are based on a wide variety of experience, background, and knowledge. The result is a consensus-driven process that has produced an avalanche education program and training courses that meet the needs of the trainers and course participants alike.

Today, AIARE curriculum provides avalanche education to more backcountry travelers than any other single avalanche education organization in the United States and trains over 100 new instructors every season. AIARE continues to develop standardized curricula for a complete program of avalanche courses that meets the needs of students at all levels, from recreational to professional, from novice to advanced.

    Aktion Agrar e.V.

Aktion Agrar e.V. is a German charity organization that campaigns against current agricultural practices that have strayed from the common good, and advocates for sustainable, socially responsible, and rural farming practices. They strongly oppose the agricultural industry lobby and believe that the much-needed agricultural turnaround can only be achieved through a collective effort with farmers and consumers.

With the growing market power of agricultural and food companies, declining species and structural diversity, and the current European and national agricultural policy fueling these developments, Aktion Agrar is dedicated to tackling the necessary change. They believe that the image of agriculture propagated by the industry lobby endangers not only the climate and the environment but also the existence of many farms and a lively rural area.

Aktion Agrar works with farmers, city dwellers, and enthusiastic campaigners to create momentum for the agricultural turnaround. They support active initiatives and courageous farmers who show that things can be done differently, offering them a platform to showcase their efforts. They also create creative campaigns that demand concrete political steps for rural agriculture that is ecological, socially acceptable, and animal-friendly.

Aktion Agrar offers information on current topics, workshops, and discussions with decision-makers to engage everyone since agricultural policy affects all. Their hundreds of supporters ensure their political and financial independence. Aktion Agrar also designs hands-on campaigns that offer many opportunities for people to stand up for a sustainable, better, and different agricultural policy.

A Sud – Ecologia e Cooperazione is an Italian association that was established in 2003. Its core focus is on addressing environmental conflicts and providing support to men and women who fight for the defence and resistance of their territories across Italy and the world.

The association works towards creating a platform for these communities by providing them with a voice and space on their channels and planning alternate methods of managing cities, states, and the planet. A Sud also offers support and tools to these communities through independent research, planning, and education in schools, universities, territories and companies.

The association aims to create solidarity bridges between the North and the South of the world and understand the common thread that links them all. They opened the first Environmental Conflict Documentation Center in 2007, which has now become an independent and autonomous research organization dealing with mapping the most emblematic conflicts caused by the control of natural resources and common goods.

The center also focuses on broad themes such as climate change, energy and production models, and ecological reconversion. A Sud believes that it is essential to encourage research activities and documentation to support concrete action and territorial intervention.

    About Clean Energy Investment Accelerator

The Clean Energy Investment Accelerator (CEIA) recognizes the emerging opportunities for companies and countries to reduce energy costs and achieve their climate goals as renewable energy becomes more affordable. With dropping renewable energy costs and increasing corporate demand for clean energy, economic growth in emerging markets leads to higher energy consumption.

The CEIA aims to accelerate clean energy deployment in commercial and industrial sectors, supporting companies and countries in meeting their energy and climate commitments. Over 140 major companies have already pledged to transition to 100% renewable energy, making significant progress in the U.S. and Europe. However, regulatory and market barriers have hindered investment and limited clean energy deployment in emerging markets.

To address this challenge, the CEIA offers solutions through an innovative public-private partnership jointly led by Allotrope Partners, World Resources Institute, and the U.S. National Renewable Energy Laboratory. Engaging in targeted initiatives in key countries, the CEIA unlocks clean energy investment across commercial and industrial sectors, helping companies reach their clean energy targets and supporting countries in achieving their climate and development goals. This encompasses the implementation of Nationally Determined Contribution investment plans, long-term decarbonization strategies, and broader efforts to meet the growing energy needs while fostering strong economic growth.

Aktion Agrar works with farmers, city dwellers, and enthusiastic campaigners to create momentum for the agricultural turnaround. They support active initiatives and courageous farmers who show that things can be done differently, offering them a platform to showcase their efforts. About BLOOM Materials

BLOOM Materials is a pioneering company that transforms waste bio-materials, such as algae, into renewable and restorative materials that replace fossil fuel-based materials in footwear and other consumer products. BLOOM® materials contribute positively to the environment instead of merely reducing harm.

The concept of BLOOM originated in 2007 when Ryan Hunt began researching algae technology as a solution to environmental pollution issues. Hunt believed algae could be utilized to remove harmful levels of phosphorus and ammonia present in industrial and agricultural waste-water, which cause ecologically damaging algae blooms and water quality problems. After years of research, he discovered that protein-rich algae biomass underwent a plasticization process under significant heat, pressure, and time.

In 2010, Ryan Hunt and Mike Van Drunen, an engineer and entrepreneur, co-founded Algix, with the mission of using algae to clean the environment and provide sustainable algae-based materials to the world. Algix spent two years developing and refining the extrusion process, as well as harvesting and drying technology, ultimately creating a commercially viable operation. They connected with governments, universities, and private companies researching algae biotechnology, building a network of algae suppliers.

In 2014, Algix secured a 70,000 sq. ft. modern manufacturing facility in Meridian, Mississippi, enabling them to research and utilize algae from various sources. In 2016, BLOOM, an Algix brand, launched the world’s first algae-blended EVA to the footwear industry as a sustainable ingredient in flexible foams for high-rebound applications like shoes, sporting products, and accessories.

The first footwear launch featuring BLOOM materials was the Vivobarefoot Bloom Ultra III water shoe, which showcased algae foam as the injection-molded upper. Since then, the company has partnered with numerous brands to create eco-conscious products that actively benefit the environment.

BLOOM Materials is dedicated to future innovations and partnerships, working towards helping the footwear industry tread lightly on the environment.

The institute identifies promising projects within specific focus areas, applying the necessary resources to facilitate the scaling of effective solutions. In its first initiative, the AII has concentrated on mill improvement, a segment of clothing production that has considerable environmental impact.

    About Allied Feather and Down

Established in 1987 as a small family company, Allied Feather and Down was founded with the vision of providing top-quality, innovative, and responsibly sourced down to outdoor and apparel brands. Spanning over three decades, the company has grown from a 12,000 square-foot warehouse to over 1 million square feet of facilities in the US, China, Vietnam, with plans to expand into Europe soon.

From its inception, Allied sought to pioneer a new approach to down sourcing and processing. At the time, the supply chain largely relied on brokers who were distantly connected to the source. Steve Uretsky, the founder of Allied, envisioned a better method for obtaining and processing down, which led to the establishment of direct relationships with hatcheries and farms. This approach ensured consistency in quality, price, and traceability. The company also reimagined traditional washing processes, ultimately developing a more sustainable method while setting new benchmarks for cleanliness.

Working directly with the source has enabled Allied to create industry-wide standards and cutting-edge traceability programs and tools. In collaboration with animal welfare organizations, Allied has proudly contributed to the development of the Responsible Down Standard, which has become one of the largest animal welfare standards in the textile industry. The company’s sustainable processing methods also permit the recycling of over 65 million gallons of water annually. In 2010, Allied became the first down supplier to achieve the prestigious bluesign® system partner status, with all Allied down now recognized as a bluesign® approved ingredient.

As a family-run operation, Allied’s primary goal is to make customers and partners feel like part of the family. Access Fund is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advocating for the climbing community in the pursuit of sustainable access and conservation of the climbing environment. Climbing, as a sport, offers climbers a range of experiences, from pure joy and limitless challenge to wild freedom and a like-minded community. However, the places where climbers find these experiences need protection, and Access Fund strives to inspire climbers to care for these special places while ensuring that every climber has the opportunity to enjoy them.

Founded in 1991, Access Fund initially fought for legal and physical access to climbing sites. Over the years, the organization has won significant victories in this battle. However, with the sport’s explosive growth, new challenges have emerged, and land managers now question whether climbers can access these sites sustainably without causing destruction. Access Fund has a 30-year history of advocacy victories, making it uniquely placed to face the new challenges head-on, fight for sustainable access, and protect and conserve the land. By building a nationwide community of inspired advocates, Access Fund is ensuring a sustainable future for climbing.

To meet the exponential growth in climbing, Access Fund is scaling up its efforts to keep pace. By becoming a member of the largest and fastest-growing community of advocates, individuals can contribute to the fight to protect America’s climbing.

    Charity
