Pralognan
The Bureau des Guides de Pralognan-la-Vanoise has a rich history dating back to 1860 when the local guides Michel Croz and Etienne Favre, along with William Mathews, made a significant achievement by reaching the summit of the Grande Casse (3855m). This accomplishment marked the beginning of a new era for Pralognan as a tourist destination, and soon, locals developed a passion for mountain guiding. The Amiez and Favre families were particularly involved in conquering the still-virgin peaks of the region, and by 1876, the French Alpine Club published the first list of mountaineers suitable for guiding.
Today, the Bureau des Guides de Pralognan-la-Vanoise continues to passionately share their love of the valley and mountains with visitors. The varied glacial massif is perfect for hiking, glacier hiking, and mountain skiing. The guides keep up with the times by incorporating new peripheral mountain activities like Via Ferrata, Accrobranches Course, and Paragliding to diversify their offerings.
However, they maintain a deep attachment to traditional guiding activity and strive to provide the best possible conditions of discovery and safety for visitors. The Bureau’s dedication to preserving its history, combined with its willingness to adapt to new trends, ensures that visitors have a memorable and safe experience in the mountains.
