The Guides Company of the Pyrenees
Established in the early 1970s, the Compagnie des Guides des Pyrénées unites a majority of the High Mountain Guides from the massif, working independently or in collaboration with Guide Offices located in the heart of valleys or Piedmont cities. Throughout history, High Mountain Guides in this region, as in others, have played a significant role in exploring their mountains, although the literature on the conquest of Pyrenean peaks may be less extensive and renowned than that of the Alps.
Célestin Passet and Robert Ollivier are remembered as illustrious figures who pioneered mountain exploration. Today’s Guides, equally motivated, continue to uphold the legacy passed down by their predecessors. Over the years, the scope of their playgrounds has expanded remarkably, and each professional in the Chaîne possesses a secret garden they are eager to help others discover.
From picturesque trails to snow-covered slopes, from jagged ridges to towering walls, and through awe-inspiring canyons, the mountain is their domain and, most importantly, their passion. The Compagnie des Guides des Pyrénées is a proud member of the National Union of Mountain Guides, representing the organization at the regional level.
Mid-Mountain Guides, Climbing and Caving Instructors affiliated with a Guide Office are also members of the Company, further solidifying the commitment to expertise and passion for exploring the breathtaking Pyrenean landscape.
